In a Vase on Monday - The Kentucky Derby
In honor of the Kentucky Derby this past weekend I used a mint julep cup as my vase. The mint julep cocktail is the traditional drink of the race and has been for a century or so. It is so fun to watch the day unfold at Churchill Downs. This one was a bit on the rainy side, and the horses were muddy from head to hoof by the end of the race. The hats and outfits of the onlookers were fabulous as always. A friend of mine always has a Kentucky Derby party the day of the race and sometimes it's a big event and other times it's a small group. This time it was a small group with our teenagers outnumbering us.
What's in the vase?
'Don Juan' Rose
Nepeta 'Walkers Low'
Acuba 'Gold Dust'

Such a good idea to use the julep cup like this - too early for roses in my garden (although I do have buds showing colour) so it was good to see yours, and whatever we think of acuba it makes a great foliage plant for our vases! Thnaks for sharing
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! I love the deep red of the rose - it's aptly named!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful rose and I love the staging. Acuba makes lovely foliage for arrangements.
ReplyDelete'Don Juan' has the most delicious scent too!
ReplyDeleteLovely - the scent must be enticing!
